Situational Leadership

Course Description

The well-known Blanchard/Hersey Situational Leadership™ model is an action-oriented framework that improves an employee’s “performance level.” It helps leaders align their approach to the employee performing the task, and allows them both to build a stronger relationship when discussing the improvement that is needed.

The four Situational Leadership styles are:
1. Directing (S1): High on directing behaviors, low on supporting behaviors.
2. Coaching (S2): High on both directing and supporting behaviors.
3. Supporting (S3): Low on directing behavior and high on supporting behaviors.
4. Delegating: (S4): Low on directing behavior and low on supporting behaviors.

Objectives & Outline

• Identify an individual’s current development level and select an appropriate leadership style
• Apply Situational Leadership in daily interactions through diagnosis, communication and follow up.
• Practice and use a variety the four Situational Leadership™ styles
• Learn a process for helping associates become self-motivated and self-directed
• Lead team members more effectively by reaching agreements with them about their development level and the leadership style that is needed.
