Die Design II
Course Description
Create a die in accordance with the strip lay-out considered in the Die Design I course. The student will learn to utilize standard die components, and learn standard design practices for various types of dies.
Objectives & Outline
We will look at cutting clearances for various materials and thicknesses; Die Construction from the Bottom up, Die Shoes, Die Blocks, Wear Plates, various Stripper Plate designs from Solid to Spring Loaded Strippers. We will look at Front Load Dies, 3 Plate Dies, Pocket Dies and the reason for the different selections. We will look at internal tool design including the number of idle stations, as well as other types of die operations required to finish the stamping. Production issues related to the size and length of the strip will also be discussed. Students will work in groups to evaluate their understanding of the material.
